Behind the Scenes at a Wedding Photoshoot

Updated: Apr 26, 2020

I would be the first to admit that I enjoy a good session of watching ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ or ‘Curvy Brides Boutique’, alongside reading stylishly glossy bridal magazines, filled from cover to cover with beautifully made-up models in stunning wedding dresses. All are fabulous tools for wedding inspiration and dare I say it, provide a little bit of escapism too! Sharing someone else’s fairytale can be very uplifting whether you are watching it or reading about it from your sofa, working to make it happen, or joining in the celebrations!

But just what is involved in creating those gorgeous, glossy images? Having recently taken part in another wonderful wedding photoshoot, this time with the multi-talented husband and wife team of 'Ruth & Russ' from RR Photographic, I thought I would offer a little peak behind the scenes. It's fascinating to see all the hard work that goes in to setting up a photoshoot and often the number of people involved in pulling together for that perfect end result, can easily be overlooked.

This particular photoshoot took place on a bright, cold, blustery (and sometimes very soggy!) March morning in Bournemouth. We were delighted to help out, providing and styling our beautiful floral wedding arch as a backdrop.

Dodging the showers (hiding from the rain in a summer house with lovely hot mugs of tea!), we set up and dressed our arch in classic cream, apricot and blush garlands with ivory chiffon drapes and peach organza sashes. Set against a backdrop of garden greenery and pink camellias, just coming into bloom, the arch was positioned on a pink and ivory chiffon covered base.

Whilst we were working on the arch, model ‘Tash Brownie’ was with makeup artist and hair stylist 'Sophie Gallagher', waiting for the downpours and grey skies to pass, before putting on the first of the stunning wedding dresses from 'Ivory and Veils' selected for the shoot.

And…as soon as the sunshine appeared we were ready to go! Ruth and Russ were amazing, working as quickly as possible to capture some absolutely stunning images in sometimes less than perfect conditions, with the light changing quickly between blustery showers. And of course, as it can be pretty chilly in March wearing a strapless wedding dress (!), working fast and looking after Tash was paramount.

I really can't recommend Ruth & Russ highly enough and if you are looking for a wedding photographer for your special day, do have a look at their website to see more of their wonderful work. Their wedding gallery is simply stunning and they also offer Engagement Photoshoots, if this is something you might like.

So just how many people did it take on this occasion to make the photoshoot happen?

· 2 x photographers (Ruth & Russ) from RR Photographic

· 1 x Model (Tash Brownie)

· 1 x Makeup and Hair Stylist from Simply Gorgeous by Sophie Gallagher

· Wedding Dresses provided by Ivory and Veils

· 1 x Floral headdress supplied by Karen's Kreations

· 1 x Stylist from the Wedding Library (me!) & my husband as chauffeur for the day!

All great fun with F A B U L O U S results and I’m delighted to say the photos have now been published in two wonderful publications Elléments Magazine & Edith Magazine (you can find links to the magazines at the bottom of this Blog) .
